What is the saltiest sea?

People often wonder which sea is the saltiest, and although all seas are salty, the Dead Sea is the saltiest.

It is called the salt sea and is considered a salt lake because the land surrounds it on all sides. The Dead Sea is ranked fifth among the saltiest seas, and science has proven that sea water treats many diseases.

What is the saltiest sea?

The Dead Sea is the saltiest sea, located in the eastern part of the Palestinian territories and the west of Jordan, and is considered one of the saltiest seas.

It was given this name because there is no life inside it. There are no fish, algae, or any aquatic organisms, due to the difficulty of existing in highly salty water.

The reason behind the extreme salinity of this sea is the lack of any drainage, meaning that the water evaporates and the salts that remain at the bottom of the sea remain.

What this sea is most famous for is the presence of very salty rocky hills and also the mud that is used in the fields of health and beauty for humans.

Dead Sea climate

The climate is hot in summer and dry in air, with temperatures ranging from 32 to 39 degrees Celsius and from 20 to 23 degrees Celsius in winter.

The lake contains ultraviolet rays, and because the sea is low, the pressure in the area is high. Also, the percentage of oxygen is higher than in any other body of water, due to the high pressure there.

Therapeutic benefits of Dead Sea water

There are many benefits to the Dead Sea water and its mud, including:

  • Treating skin diseases such as vitiligo and eczema. Sea water also gives the skin softness and freshness and helps prevent the appearance of acne.
  • Treatment of rheumatic diseases and arthritis.
  • Sulphur, bromine and carbon are found in high levels in the Dead Sea, which supports industry and the export of some of these chemicals.
  • The mud in the sea contains a large percentage of potassium, magnesium, iron and calcium.
  • The air in the sea contains non-positive charges that treat asthma patients.
  • It contains high levels of oxygen, which helps increase blood flow in humans.

The religious significance of the Dead Sea

There is a link between the Dead Sea and the story of the Prophet Lot and his people who lived in the Dead Sea area to the south. The people were mentioned in some of the heavenly books.

The importance of the Dead Sea as a tourist destination

The Dead Sea is a popular tourist destination for recreational, medical, and ecotourism purposes. The Dead Sea region has also become a major destination for conference tourism.

This type of tourism is concerned with organizing numerous conferences on a regular basis, whether locally or internationally. A private conference company has been established by a group of Arab and Jordanian investors.

The King Hussein Bin Talal Convention Center was established to host conferences. Jordan also organizes an annual running marathon in the Dead Sea area, which attracts thousands of tourists. The marathon starts in Amman, the capital, and ends at Amman Beach, which overlooks the Dead Sea.

Dead Sea Development and Rehabilitation

The Israeli government has allocated $220 million to develop one of the two tourist areas overlooking the Dead Sea, namely Ein Buqeq and Tami Zohar.

Also, some of the damaged areas will be treated. When this project is completed, the number of hotels will increase. The goal of the project that Israel is undertaking is to make the Dead Sea one of the most important tourist areas in the world.

The best ways to save the Dead Sea

Two water projects are being discussed in Jordan:

  • the firstIt is the construction of a canal linking the Dead Sea and the Red Sea in order to save the Dead Sea. This is done by withdrawing about 2.5 billion cubic meters of water from the Red Sea and pumping it to the Dead Sea.
  • the secondIt is the development of the Red Sea, which will be done by pumping Red Sea water through pipes to a desalination plant. The plant will produce 700 million cubic meters of drinking water.

Thus, we have explained what the saltiest seas are, what are the causes of high salinity, and also the benefits of this water for treatment.
